Richard A. Kasuli, aside from being a long time cigar aficionado, is President of a well known air conditioning company. Having problems keeping his few gift Cuban cigars fresh for those special occasions, Rich developed and patented the basic idea for the Humicon humidor. After two years of development and testing, utilizing his experience in designing and constructing controlled ventilating systems for research labs, hospital operating rooms, computer centers, etc., this unique product was brought to market.

A breakthrough in humidor engineering, Humicon humidors feature an ingenious, yet simple, patented natural convection system that constantly introduces fresh air into the system. This is recommended by prominent cigar advisors. Rich states, "My father used a shoebox with some water in a sponge to preserve his cigars. The vast majority of today’s humidors, no matter what shape or how detailed or beautiful, are still nothing more than my father’s shoebox." Rich found that the Humicon system produces ample humidity, and therefore, venting does not affect humidification. In addition, the controlled circulation of fresh air also dramatically reduces the possibility of mold or mildew formation as well as mixing of different aromas. Other members of the engineering/design team introduced the utilization of an electronic, fast acting humidity sensor to take into account changes in ambient temperature and humidity as well as frequent humidor access.

Humicon now produces a variety of humidor sizes. The largest unit, "The Collectors Edition" was designed to hold up to 1200 cigars in a beautifully constructed glass front armoire with a red mahogany satin lacquer finish. The smallest unit is the "Executive Edition" which has glass doors and a removable drawer for serving guests. This unit has a capacity of 300 cigars. Although the basic Humicon control system is very sophisticated, it is very simple and contains no moving parts. The Humicon humidor has been proven to control relative humidity within +2% for months at a time. The actual humidity is customer variable depending on individual tastes. With this type of precise control the Humicon can be used for "aging" green cigars as well as bringing the "dead" back to life.

The resurgence of the cigar’s popularity and rapid growth has lead to a new concept of tobacco cigar clubs and cigar friendly restaurants. Typically the environment has music, fineliquor, coffee, leather sofas and chairs. However many of these clubs rent lockers which are mini humidors for individuals to store their individual cigars. Humicon has seen this opportunity to adapt our unique patented technology and is expanding its products and service to extend to all aspects of cigar storage. Therefore, if someone is opening a cigar bar, we will be able to use our modular concept and provide the cigar bar with as many humidor lockers as necessary.

Now Rich can enjoy his cigar in confidence because as he says, "Humidity controlled cigars taste best". Humicon can be reached at its main office in Merrick, New York by calling 1-800-386-3604.
