Cedar Vs Lacquer Interior

Traditionally many humidors have been lined with Spanish Cedar. The question is often raised why doesn’t Humicon cedar line their humidors? Cedar has two properties which are good for traditional humidors. The first is that cedar has a natural resistance to mold and mildew, the second is that cedar absorbs water almost like a sponge. The disadvantage of cedar in a humidor is that it absorbs the different tobacco flavors and tends to blend or "marry" them together and it also has an aroma or flavor of it’s own which also gets into the cigar.

Humicon humidors change the air inside the humidor on average three times per hour. This is done for two reasons. First it drastically reduces the ability for mold to grow, not only inside the humidor but also on the cigars themselves. Secondly air changes help to prevent the flavors of cigars from mixing together. This blending or "marrying" of the flavors is not good for cigars. Each cigar is carefully constructed to have an individual taste and aroma and it should not be changed by the cigar next to it in a humidor. As far as cedar’s water retention property it simply is not required in a Humicon humidor. Humicon’s patented humidification system can generate ample humidity in any environment therefore the cedar has been eliminated to get rid of the negative effects which cedar has on the cigars.

But what about aging cigars? Yes cedar is used to age cigars because it blends the different flavors of the various tobaccos used in the cigar together. Humicon humidors can be used to age cigars in the best environment possible, the original box the cigars came in. Humicon humidors store boxes as well as individual cigars, giving the end user total control of how they want to store their cigars.
